Labor Day

Today I learned about children working in factories, mines, and canneries. Many of them were injured or killed while working. The girls who were working in the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory were locked in rooms while they worked. One day there was a fire and the doors were locked and many of the girls died from the smoke or fire. Others jumped out the window to get away from the fire and died. This made me angry at the people who owned the shop. They did not care that the locked doors were dangerous for the girls.

Other children were in danger working in mines and canneries. They worked in mines where they sometimes could get trapped and die.
